Four months after our twin boys were born, my husband Adrian began turning off his location every time he left the house.
First, he blamed technical problems.
Then exhaustion.
Then somehow, he blamed me.
When money began disappearing from our emergency savings and his phone became permanently locked, I convinced myself there had to be another woman.
So one afternoon, I followed him.
What I found was something I never could have imagined.
A teenage girl stood beneath an old oak tree holding a box filled with photographs of our twins.
Then she looked at my husband and said:
“I don’t want more pictures, Dad. I want the truth.”
I stopped walking.
Dad?
Adrian turned and saw me.
His face went pale.
“Claire…”
The girl looked about seventeen.
She had Adrian’s gray eyes.
I stared at him.
“Who is she?”
Adrian swallowed hard.
“Her name is Lena.”
