Vivian’s face tightened.

“My son has believed the opposite.”

Mrs. Bellamy smiled.

“Both of them have spent more energy circling my estate than entering my hospital room.”

Vivian stood.

“Maya does not know this.”

Mrs. Bellamy’s smile became almost mischievous.

“She would have refused.”

Then she said:

“I instructed Nurse Carla Jensen to place the ring in Maya’s lunch bag after my death.”

Carla began crying.

Vivian turned toward her.

“You did this?”

Carla covered her face.

The lawyer paused the recording.

Then Vivian screamed:

“WHY?”

Carla finally looked up.

And what she said next made the entire room go silent.
