“I made a mistake. I wanted to be certain first. Daniel’s mother suffered terribly because of this condition. I was afraid you would think I was overreacting. I asked Emily not to say anything until I could arrange a doctor’s appointment. Now I understand how frightening my behavior must have looked.”
That same evening, we took Emily to a doctor.
Robert had been right.
Our daughter was diagnosed with a mild form of the same condition. The doctor said that if we had discovered it later, it could have become much more serious.
As we left the clinic, Emily took her grandfather’s hand.
“I knew you were helping me,” she said.
I looked at Robert, too ashamed to speak. He didn’t blame me. He only said quietly:

“You’re her mother. You had every right to worry. But I should have told you everything from the beginning.”
From that day forward, there were no more secrets in our home.
But I never deleted the camera recording.
I kept it—not because it showed something terrible happening, but because the final scene showed a frightened grandfather kneeling in front of his granddaughter and whispering:
“I couldn’t help your grandmother in time, but I won’t make the same mistake with you.”
