My Daughter-in-Law Mocked Me for Wearing a Bikini — and for Going to the Pool With a chibi Man I’d Never Seen Before… But by the End of the Day, He Did Something That Made Her Regret Every Cruel Word

The people around us applauded.

Henry bowed dramatically.

“I knew the bikini was good luck.”

I laughed harder than I had in years.

Melissa didn’t.

She quietly gathered her things and left.

But that wasn’t the end.

Over the next six months, Henry and I became nearly inseparable.

He took me dancing.

I taught him how to make my mother’s apple pie.

We argued about movies, competed over crossword puzzles, and occasionally went back to that same swimming pool.

And yes, I wore the bikini.

Every single time.

Melissa avoided talking about what happened that day.

Until one Sunday afternoon.

She came to my house alone.

“I owe you an apology,” she said.

I didn’t answer immediately.

She looked uncomfortable.

“I was cruel.”

“Yes.”

“I thought I was being funny.”

“You weren’t.”

She nodded.

“I know.”

Then her voice softened.

“I think maybe I was jealous.”

That surprised me.

“Jealous?”

“You seemed happy.”

She looked down.

“And I realized I hadn’t felt that way in a long time.”

For the first time, I saw her not as the woman who had mocked me, but as someone struggling with her own unhappiness.

I didn’t excuse what she had done.

But I forgave her.

Three months later, Henry invited our families to dinner.

Halfway through dessert, he suddenly stood.

My heart began pounding because I knew that look.

He walked around the table, lowered himself onto one knee, and pulled out the same velvet box.

Melissa gasped.

Henry looked up at me.

“Nine months ago, I met a woman at a swimming pool who reminded me life wasn’t over.”

Tears filled my eyes.

“She made me laugh when I thought I had forgotten how. She made ordinary mornings feel important again.”

He opened the box.

“This time, I am asking.”

Everyone became silent.

Henry smiled.

“Will you marry me?”

I didn’t hesitate.

“Yes.”

Melissa was the first person to stand and applaud.

Then she came around the table and hugged me.

As she pulled away, she whispered,

“I’m glad you wore that bikini.”

I burst out laughing.
