The explanation I didn’t expect
His next words left me speechless: “I think it’s the way you dress.”
I widened my eyes. “What? What do you mean?”
“I don’t want you to misunderstand,” she said calmly. “But Carlo has always found you an attractive woman. Lately, the way you dress seems to accentuate that. Tight-fitting tops, skirts, always-polished hair… it confuses him. And I see the way he looks at you.”
At that point, I felt overwhelmed by a mix of emotions: anger, embarrassment, disbelief. How could my sister’s husband have feelings for me? And how could Laura be telling me all this as if it were my problem?
“Are you telling me he’s staring at me because he finds the way I dress attractive?” I asked in an angry tone.
Laura nodded guiltily. “I don’t want you to think it’s your fault. But I’m trying to figure out how we can handle this without creating tension in the family.”
