Adam didn’t wake up penniless.

He wasn’t publicly humiliated in some movie-style scene.
His consequences were quieter.

Rachel did not take him back.
A few weeks after our meeting, she contacted me.
I nearly ignored her message.
She wrote:
I’m sorry to bother you. I don’t want details that aren’t my business. I only need to know one thing. Did Adam ever attempt to contact or support the children before the night at school?
I answered honestly.
No.
That was all.
Later, she thanked me.
She said she had almost married him believing he had never been a father.
She couldn’t get past the fact that he had spent four years helping raise Chloe while hiding three children of his own.
I didn’t celebrate their breakup.
