A small dog tied outside a supermarket terrified everyone who passed — until one woman knelt down and realized what she was protecting.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake, somebody do something about that dog! She’s going to bite someone!”
The little terrier mix kept barking in a hoarse, almost broken voice.
She could not have weighed more than ten kilograms. Her rough brown fur was tangled around her muzzle, and her thin legs looked as though they might give way beneath her.
Someone had tied her to a bicycle rack with a yellow rope.
Two tight knots.

She could barely move half a meter before the rope pulled against her collar.
And every time someone approached the entrance, she became frantic.
She lunged forward, bared her teeth, and barked until she was nearly out of breath.
People avoided her.
A mother pulled her child away. A young man pretended to kick at her. An older man shook his head and muttered that some people should never own animals.
