Here\u2019s where I need to look closely.
\nThe text says \u201ctwo pairs of watches\u201d \u2014 not two individual watches.
\nBut in the actual image (which I can\u2019t see), the third equation might show\u00a0\u231a\u00a0+\u00a0\u231a\u00a0(two single watches), not two pairs.<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s two single watches +\u00a0\ud83e\uddd1\u00a0= 13:
\n\u231a\u00a0+\u00a0\u231a\u00a0+ 5 = 13
\n\u231a\u00a0+\u00a0\u231a\u00a0= 8
\nOne single watch = 4<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s literally two pairs of watches (four watches) +\u00a0\ud83e\uddd1\u00a0= 13:
\n4\u231a\u00a0+ 5 = 13
\n4\u231a\u00a0= 8
\nOne single watch = 2<\/p>\n

I\u2019m betting the intended trap is:<\/p>\n

The third equation shows two individual watches, not pairs.<\/p>\n

But people glance and assume \u201cpair\u201d from the text, messing up the value for the final line.<\/p>\n

Step 4 \u2013 Final equation (the trap)
\nThe final line usually looks something like:

But here\u2019s the kicker:<\/p>\n

The person might be wearing something (a watch? earbuds?)<\/p>\n

The watch in the final line might be only one, not a pair.<\/p>\n

The earbuds might be a single earbud, not a pair.<\/p>\n

In many versions of this puzzle:
