At 2 a.m., after a grueling twelve-hour shift in the ER, I saw a young mother sitting alone outside the hospital, holding back tears as her six-day-old twins cried beside her. I had no idea that helping her would change everything two days later.
“Are you waiting for someone?” I asked gently.

She looked up, her eyes red and exhausted. “I need to get to my sister’s house, but I have no way to get there.”
I handed her my phone. Her sister answered, but she couldn’t come. Seeing the helplessness on the mother’s face, I made a decision.
“Come on. I’ll take you.”
“Are you sure?” she whispered, glancing at her babies.
“Of course,” I replied.
As we drove through the quiet streets, she finally broke down. Between tears, she told me her husband had abandoned her outside the hospital after an argument. He had driven away with her purse, phone, and diaper bag still in his car.
