Across the front, in large white letters:
HOA SECURITY.
Not police.
But from twenty feet away, it looked close enough to confuse someone.
He carried a folder.
His right hip held a holstered handgun.
That concerned me.
Private security can be armed depending on jurisdiction and licensing.
But an armed contractor walking to my door over an HOA key dispute was insane.
I remained inside.
Darren rang the bell.
The camera recorded his face.
I spoke through the door.
“What do you want?”
“HOA enforcement.”
“Leave the property.”
“I need the required access key.”
“You’re not getting one.”
“I have an enforcement order.”
“Slide it under the door.”
He hesitated.
“I need you to open the door.”
“No.”
“Sir, refusing to cooperate will escalate this.”
“You are already trespassing after being told to leave.”
He looked directly at the camera.
“Mr. Vance, open the door.”
“No.”
He knocked hard.
