For the first time in years, I cried.
I couldn’t understand how the little boy I had carried on my shoulders had become a man who threatened his own father.
The next morning, at eight o’clock, the doorbell rang.
When I opened the door, Daniel was standing there with two unfamiliar people.
A man in a dark jacket and a middle-aged woman carrying a folder.
“Dad, these people are from the nursing home,” Daniel announced.
I froze.
The woman stepped forward.
“Good morning, Mr. Robert. Your son told us you’re no longer able to live independently. We’re here to discuss your admission.”
I stared at Daniel.
He smiled.
“I warned you, Dad.”
For several seconds, I couldn’t speak.
Then I looked at the two strangers, slowly stepped aside, and invited them into my house.
Daniel looked pleased, convinced that I had finally surrendered.
But he had no idea what I was about to do.
