“Daddy, can you take me to school?”
I cried tears of happiness when I heard those words.
But six months later, I began noticing strange things.
Every Wednesday, Robert picked Emily up from school and brought her home two hours later than usual.
Whenever I asked where they had been, he said they had gone for a walk.
One afternoon, I found an old, yellowed photograph inside my daughter’s schoolbag.
It showed a young woman holding a small child.
When I asked Emily who was in the picture, she snatched it from my hand in fear.
“Mom, that’s not mine. I wasn’t supposed to show you.”
“Who gave it to you?”
“Daddy.”
“Robert?”
She nodded.
“He said it wasn’t time yet.”
That evening, I confronted my husband.
His expression changed immediately.
“Sarah, please don’t ask me about this right now.”
“Why are you keeping secrets from me about my own child?”
