During those months, I had been looked after by one of my mother’s closest friends.
That woman was Elizabeth’s mother.
Which meant that Elizabeth and I had spent the earliest months of my life under the same roof.
But even that wasn’t the most shocking revelation.
Robert confessed that when he was involved with Elizabeth, he already knew about the connection between our families.
And by the time he met me, Elizabeth was already expecting his child.
“I was terrified of losing you,” he whispered. “So I made the worst possible choice. I stayed silent.”
I couldn’t speak for several minutes.

“Why now? Why did you bring me here?”
