On her finger was my wedding ring.
My ring.
I was still trying to understand how that was possible when Mike suddenly turned toward me.
“Sarah, what’s wrong? Why are you so pale?”
“Nothing,” I barely managed to answer.
He smiled.
“Then give
me your phone. Let me see what’s frightened you so much.”
I pressed my phone against my chest.
At that moment, a second message arrived.
“Don’t show him the photograph. You have no idea who really sent it.”
When I looked up, I saw that one of the three men was silently crying.
And suddenly, he spoke.
“Mike, I can’t keep quiet anymore. Your wife deserves to know the whole truth.”

The man who was crying was Ben.
In twelve years, I had never seen him like that.
He had always been a cheerful, easygoing man. Our children even called him Uncle Ben.
But that evening, his face had turned completely white.
Mike laughed.
“What’s wrong, Ben? Have you had too much to drink?”
Ben raised his head.
“No. I’ve been trying to tell the truth for six months. But
every time, I’ve been too afraid.”
Daniel suddenly stood up.
“Ben, sit down. This isn’t the time.”
I looked at Daniel.
“What were you doing in my bedroom?”
The room became so silent that I could hear the kitchen clock ticking.Search Homes
Mike slowly turned toward me.
“What did you just say?”
I placed my phone on the table and showed him the photograph.
My husband stared at the screen for several seconds.
Then his face went pale.
“Where did you get this?”
“Someone just sent it to me.”
Daniel covered his face with one hand.
