The child suddenly stopped speaking. Her tiny hands began to tremble.
“What did you see, Emma?” Linda asked anxiously.
“There was a man standing beside Mommy’s bed… He saw me and quickly walked toward the door.”
“And then, sweetheart?”
Emma lowered her head.
“He said that if I told anyone about him, Mommy would never wake up again…”
Linda looked at the paramedic in horror.
But the girl’s next words left them both speechless.
“And this morning, while I was putting my little brothers into the wheelbarrow, I heard him talking to someone on the phone. He said, ‘The girl is still in the house. We need to hurry before anyone finds out what’s going on.’”
When the rescuers and police officers reached the house and opened the bedroom door, they realized that six-year-old Emma still hadn’t revealed the most terrifying part of the story…
