“Are you related to this woman?”
The man hesitated.
“I’m her father.”
Mike frowned.
“Then why did your six-year-old granddaughter have to walk several miles alone to save the lives of two newborn babies?”
Robert lowered his head.
“I… I didn’t understand what was happening.”
“The child says you threatened her.”
The man’s eyes widened.
“No… I never wanted to frighten her.”
“Then why did you tell her that if she told anyone about you, her mother would never wake up?”
Robert covered his face with his hands.
And then he said something that made the entire situation even more mysterious.
“Because I thought Sarah was pretending.”
The officer stared at him in confusion.
“What do you mean?”
Robert took a deep breath.
