Mike looked at him sternly.
“But you still didn’t call for help.”
Robert said nothing.
He simply stared at the stretcher carrying his daughter away.
Then suddenly, he dropped to his knees.
“My little granddaughter had more sense than I did…”
At that moment, Mike noticed a white envelope lying beneath the bed.
Written on the front were the words:
“To Emma. If Anything Ever Happens to Me.”
The officer picked it up.
Robert turned pale.
“What is that?”
“We’ll find out soon enough.”
At the hospital, Sarah remained in critical condition.
Doctors discovered that she had suffered a serious complication following childbirth, one that could have been life-threatening without timely treatment.
The twins also needed medical attention.
But the most important thing was that all three were alive.
When Linda told Emma the news, the little girl asked only one question.
“Does Mommy know I didn’t leave my brothers alone?”
