Amy read the final lines.
“Mom, I still want to get to know you. But I’m not waiting for you to come and save our family anymore. We don’t need saving. We’re already a family.”
Linda could no longer speak.
Richard approached her.
“Let’s go. This is getting uncomfortable.”
But Linda didn’t move.
She took off her expensive handbag, placed it on the ground, and looked at the children.
“I thought happiness was money. A beautiful house, vacations, expensive clothes. But now I realize that for ten years, I had everything except what mattered most.”
Jake approached her.
“You can’t just come back and pretend nothing happened. Dad raised us alone. And even then, he never spoke badly about you.”
Linda looked at me.
“David, you have every right to hate me.”
I remained silent for a long moment.
“I forgave you a long time ago, Linda. But that doesn’t mean we can erase the past. You’ll have to earn our children’s trust again.”
