Over the next few days, Ben changed.
He wasn’t as talkative as before. Whenever his grandfather called him, he would immediately look at me before silently following Robert.
One evening, I noticed my grandson’s little hands trembling.
“Sweetheart, what does Grandpa do with you in that room?”
Ben turned pale.
“I can’t tell you, Grandma.”
“Why not?”
He remained silent for a long moment before whispering:
“Because Grandpa said I’m not allowed to tell you. He said if I tell you, everything will be ruined.”
That was the moment I decided I couldn’t wait any longer.
The following morning, I pretended I was going to the grocery store.
But instead of leaving, I walked around the backyard, approached the window of the small room, and carefully peeked inside.
What I saw made me cover my mouth with my hand.
Robert was standing in front of Ben. My grandson’s entire body was trembling, and my husband was holding his little hands tightly while demanding something from him.
