“Dad, give me the extra house key.”
I looked at him.
“Why?”
“Just in case.”
He smiled, but something about that smile bothered me.
A few days later, Sarah asked for my medical folder.
She said she wanted to organize my appointments.

Then I noticed some of the papers in my desk had been moved.
I said nothing.
But that night, I barely slept.
Then things became worse.
Whenever I entered the kitchen, their conversations suddenly stopped.
Once, I heard Sarah whisper,
“We can’t keep doing this much longer.”
Daniel answered,
“Friday. Everything has to be finished by Friday.”
I froze in the hallway.
Neither of them knew I was there.
That night, my hand shook so badly that I dropped a glass of water.
It shattered across the floor.
Sarah came running.
She tried to calm me down.
But all I could see in her eyes was pity.
