While I was working 3,000 miles away in London, my sister broke into my luxury penthouse and declared, “We live here now.” She had no idea I was a Deputy U.S. Marshal—or that my security cameras were recording her entire scheme.

I felt furious.

But I was tired of letting anger decide my future.

“What do you want to do?” Elise asked.

I thought carefully.

“I want this to stop.”

She nodded.

“Then everything goes through proper legal channels. No private arrangements, no undocumented payments, and no access to your property.”

I agreed.

That evening, Paige came to my building.

I met her in the lobby.

She handed me an envelope containing $340.

“It’s not enough,” she said. “But I want to start paying for the damage.”

I looked at the money.

For years, Paige had brought me problems and expected solutions.

Now she was taking a small step toward responsibility.

“Deposit it,” I told her. “Make the repayment through Elise’s office so there’s a proper record.”

Paige nodded.

Then she looked at me with tears in her eyes.

“Did Grandma really love me too?”

The question surprised me.
