I married a complete stranger who was dying of cancer on his birthday to fulfill his final wish. But after his funeral, his lawyer knocked on my door and said, “He made me wait until today to tell you WHO HE REALLY WAS.”

But that wasn’t the most important part.

The documents contained recordings, bank transfers, and signed confessions proving that the investigation into my parents’ deaths had been deliberately covered up.

“William spent the last several years gathering this evidence,” the lawyer said. “It was delivered to federal investigators this morning.”

I was crying when I opened the final small envelope.

Inside was a photograph of me as a child. I was ten years old, standing beside my parents’ graves.

On the back of the photograph, William had written:

“I was standing behind the trees that day. I wanted to approach you, but I walked away like a coward. From that moment on, I lived every day with only one purpose—to someday return the life I had taken from you.”

Three months later, the company’s former owner and the police officer who had covered up the case were arrested.
