“Because I wanted you to complete the application tonight. I thought that if I told you we had important business to discuss, you’d stay and listen. But I chose my words terribly.”
“Then why did you grab me?”
Robert lowered his head.
“I was afraid you’d leave without hearing the explanation. But that gave me no right to touch you. I’m sorry.”
I was still trembling.
“What about all those young mistresses? And Kate, who came out of your office crying?”
Robert looked surprised.
Then he gave a tired smile.
“Yes, I date women younger than myself. But they’re adults, and my personal relationships have nothing to do with my employees.”
He paused.
“As for Kate, she was crying because she’d just learned she’d been accepted into her dream college. She left because she moved to another city. You can ask her yourself.”
The next day, Linda confirmed his story.
