Continuation
The next morning, I arrived at my parents’ house fifteen minutes before ten.
I had barely slept.
The same questions had been running through my mind all night.
Who was this woman?
What had Dad been hiding for more than fifty years?
And worst of all—what would Mom think when she finally learned the truth?
When I walked inside, Mom was in the kitchen making coffee.
“Why are you here so early?” she asked.
I looked at Dad.
He was sitting in the living room with his hands resting on his knees.
“Dad told me to come.”
Mom turned toward him.
“Robert, what are you planning?”
Dad tried to smile.
“Just wait a little.”
The closer it got to ten o’clock, the more nervous he became.
9:57.
He looked out the window.
9:58.
He stood up, then sat down again.
9:59.
By then, Mom understood that this was no ordinary surprise.
