She came over and wrapped her little arms tightly around my legs.
“Mom, I wanted to surprise you.”
“What kind of surprise, sweetheart?”
She reached into her schoolbag and pulled out a small photo album.
I opened it.
On the first page was a photograph of Mike as a child.
The following pages showed his school years, his first bicycle, and his birthday celebrations.
Then came our wedding photograph.
And on the final page was a picture of Emily and Margaret together.
At the top, in my daughter’s childish handwriting, were the words:
Our family is together again.
I knelt and hugged my daughter.
“Did you make this yourself?”
“With Grandma and Daddy,” she answered.
I turned toward Robert.
Through my tears, I managed a small smile.
“Did you know Mike had written that letter?”
He nodded.
“Yes. But there’s something else I haven’t told you.”
My heart tightened again.
