Robert wrapped his arms around me.
“I’m sorry I didn’t say these things years ago.”
That day, for the first time in many years, I actually wanted to be photographed.
I sat on the living room sofa, took Lily into my arms, and Sarah began taking pictures.
When I saw the photograph, my eyes immediately went to my large belly, just as they always did.
But then I noticed my granddaughter’s smile.
Her tiny hand was resting on mine, and her eyes were shining with happiness.
I stared at the picture for a long time.
Then Sarah approached me.
“Mom, do you like the picture?”
I smiled.
“Very much. For the first time, I don’t want to delete it.”
My daughter hugged me.
“Do you know how much Lily loves you?”
“I do.”
“She doesn’t understand who’s fat, who’s thin, or who’s beautiful. All she knows is that she’s loved when she’s in Grandma’s arms.”
