I left my three-year-old son in the care of his seventeen-year-old brother while I worked an exhausting double shift at the hospital. I thought my boys were safe at home. Then my phone rang, and a police officer’s words made my blood run cold.

Now, standing in my kitchen, I finally learned what had happened.

Logan had taken Andrew for a walk when he discovered our elderly neighbor, seventy-eight-year-old Walter Henson, collapsed on his porch. Without hesitation, Logan called emergency services and followed the dispatcher’s instructions to perform CPR.

For nearly six minutes, my teenage son fought to keep a stranger alive.

“He may have saved Mr. Henson’s life,” Officer Benny told me.

Tears blurred my vision. Logan looked at me and whispered, “I just didn’t want him to be alone, Mom.”

Those words shattered my heart.

Suddenly, I remembered Daniel’s final medical emergency and the unbearable thought that my husband might have been frightened and alone. My son had carried that pain silently for two years.

Then the officer revealed something I never expected.

“Ask Logan where he’s been going every Tuesday evening.”

My son lowered his eyes.
