She smiled faintly.
“Because on the Sunday Lily was taken away, seven of us were supposed to have lunch together. Robert, Sarah, little Lily, me, your grandfather, David, and his wife. I wanted us all to be together again one day. Then I simply kept setting the table.”
Tears rolled down my cheeks.
But suddenly, I remembered something.
“Grandma, why today? How did you know they were coming?”
Lily answered.
“Three weeks ago, I found one of Grandma’s letters. It was hidden among David’s old documents. I called her. We agreed to come today.”
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was my father.
I answered.
“Emily, where are you?”
“At Grandma’s house.”
There was silence for several seconds.
“I’m coming right now,” he said before hanging up.
Twenty minutes later, the door opened.
My father walked in, furious.
“How many times have I told you…”
But he stopped in the middle of his sentence.
