I sat on the balcony, staring at the dark ocean, remembering our younger years.
Our wedding. Our children. The happiness we once shared.
Then I remembered Robert’s cruel jokes and the countless mornings I’d cried in front of the mirror.
I’d spent years believing that if I lost weight, he would love me again.
But his betrayal wasn’t caused by my body.
It was his choice.
The next morning, Robert took me to a small seaside café.
A little girl with long brown hair and Robert’s blue eyes stood up nervously.
“Are you Mary?”
I nodded.
“I’ve wanted to meet you,” she whispered.
“Why, sweetheart?”
She opened a small photo album.
“Before Mommy died, she told me about you. She said you raised three children, worked hard, and always helped people.”
I stared at her.
“She told you about me?”
Emily nodded.
“I asked why someone so kind wasn’t happy. Mommy said grown-ups sometimes forget to appreciate the people who love them.”
